Wyoming State Requirements

You must hold a license or Pharmacy Technician-in-Training permit before working as a pharmacy technician. Note that submitting an application does not authorize you to begin working.

Wyoming has two tiers: Pharmacy Technician-in-Training and licensed Pharmacy Technician. The training permit provides an entry route for applicants who have not yet earned the national certification required for full licensure.

You must be at least 18 years old (for either credential).

Both Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Technician-in-Training applicants must hold a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent qualification.

The permit allows you to complete on-the-job training while preparing for the PTCB or NHA ExCPT certification examination. It is valid for 2 years from its original issue date and is tied to a sponsoring pharmacy.

Trainees can perform pharmacy duties only at the sponsoring pharmacy named on the permit. Note that a pharmacy sponsor transfer form must be submitted before working at a different pharmacy.

Wyoming does not set a specific number of training hours or require graduation from a particular technician program. The trainee pathway combines supervised workplace training with preparation for an accepted national certification examination.

Full Pharmacy Technician applicants must hold current certification from either PTCB or the NHA. Note that national certification is not required for the Pharmacy Technician-in-Training permit.

Applicants for both credential levels must complete a criminal history background check through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

New applicants must submit fingerprint cards with their applications. Background reports obtained for employment, another state, or another organization are not accepted.

You must have no felony or misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude and no history of drug abuse. Note that evidence of rehabilitation may be considered where relevant.

New applications are completed using the paper application packets provided on Wyoming’s pharmacy technician licensing page. Applications and supporting documents must be mailed; new applications are not accepted by email or fax.

The application fee is $50, while the Pharmacy Technician-in-Training permit fee is $15. Applicants must also pay a separate $50 fingerprint-processing fee, and the fingerprinting location may charge an additional collection fee.

Pharmacy Technician licenses expire annually on December 31 and must be renewed each year. Note that the 2-year Pharmacy Technician-in-Training permit is non-renewable and non-extendable.

The annual renewal fee is $50.

Licensed pharmacy technicians are authorized to administer immunizations after completing the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Technicians program or another ACPE-accredited technician-specific program, maintaining current basic CPR certification, and keeping the training and CPR records available. Vaccinations must be administered under a pharmacist who is also qualified to provide immunizations. The rule authorizes registered Pharmacy Technicians, not Pharmacy Technicians-in-Training.
